Our Charity
First and foremost, our mission is to "raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention."
Fundraising is an important, but secondary goal.
Black Dog Ride was founded by Steve Andrews in 2009 as a ride to raise awareness of depression. Since then, thousands of Black Dog Riders have joined Steve on the road, riding to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention around the nation.
The primary mission of Black Dog Ride remains raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention. All fundraising raised from official Black Dog Ride & Community Events is given back to community support groups via our Community Grant program. We offer Train the Trainer & Community Project funding.
The Black Dog Ride Australia Community Grants program is focused non supporting initiatives that; help people who suffer from mental illness, help prevent suicide, and raise awareness of both mental health and suicide prevention. We are seeking to distribute funding as widely as possible (in terms of location), in programs that make a cost effective, demonstrable and sustainable difference in peoples' lives.
During 2019 we launched a new program for the disbursement of funds, our "Community Grants." The aim of our Community Grants program is to direct money into community based initiatives that truly make a difference right across the country.
